To a first-degree approximation, I'm a rationalist AI programmer. I think we're on the eve of radical technological transformation, and I'm putting all my points into making that go well.

I've got a generally modernist philosophy: the world can be understood and improved, technology is mostly a positive-sum game, truth is real and important. Nick Bostrom's Letter from Utopia is a pretty solid explanation of what I aspire to.

But that's all theoretical. I'm pretty good at computer stuff, even within the SF bay selection effect. I like learning about how things work, and I've picked up myriad crafting hobbies in the spirit of DIY. I read a lot (especially webfic) and recently have been spending weekends with a book under a tree in the park. I've got a generally weeb sense of aesthetics.

I grew up in the south bay, but in college attended Boston University to study electrical engineering. I like the rain and snow and I'd like to spend some time living somewhere further afield, but I'm planning to remain in SF until this whole AI thing is settled. I've travelled a fair bit, including 5 months solo backpacking around Asia (between jobs, immediately before the pandemic). Ask me about the time I got tear-gassed in Hong Kong!

I'm generally pretty introverted and thrive one-on-one or in small groups. It does take me a while to warm up to people, even when I try to counter this. I'm pretty bad at meeting new people, but I like doing so. I'm unusually patient and very tolerant of people outside the norm in some way.

Romantically, I'm looking for someone I can support, and be friends with. I often feel like a robot — I hope you can help me break out of that, and we can spend time together facing the human side of life on earth.

We'll probably get along if you've got some kind of nerdy / geeky interests, and if you're inquisitive about the world, even along a direction very different from my own. I like weirdos from the internet, and you should consider talking to me even if (especially if!) you think you're not what a typical guy would be searching for.

I'm not looking for a challenge-challenge dynamic; I'd rather be with someone who I can vibe and spend downtime with. I prefer relationships that are especially calm, stable, grounded.
